Welcome to the Mini-Edit download page
What is it? Mini Edit is a tool which was originally created for use by people creating ITS standards (data stewards) which as since grown into a useful deployment tool for users of ITS standards. While still the primary editing tool for most of the message sets exchanged between centers in ITS, it is also used to create the analogous XML representation of the messages and to manage and extract both ASN.1 and XML source listings from the standards.
What it is not. Mini-Edit is a framework for editing records in a database. It is not the database itself. You need to get a copy of the database you need from the standards developing organization whose data you want to want with. The ITE, IEEE, APTA, ASTM and SAE all have different ways in which you get the data used in their standards.
Who can use it. Any person engaged in the deployment or development of ITS standards is allowed to use Mini-Edit in its basic form. You may run as many copies on as many machines as you like. Your work product belong entirely to you and there is no fee or obligation to use Min-Edit. However, for support questions on how it is used (especially with respect to the data), ask your standards developing organization. Those engaged in the actual development of standards are also provided with some additional tools that integrate with Mini-Edit and produce complete formatted documents to help you in publishing the final standard. The Mini-Edit tools were originally developed and are maintained by SubCarrier Systems Corporation (SCSC), the operator of this web site, and a provider to contract services to several of the standards organizations. The on-going development costs of Mini-Edit has been graciously underwritten by the FHWA as part of the SAE portion of the multi-SDO joint standards development agreement.
How to get it Installation involves a two step process. First you install the script file below (which will add any needed Active-X controls or DLLs required), then you update the actual executive and control file with the most current copies below. Periodically you will return to this site and re-install new copies of the program as needed. We are constantly adding small features to the program as the demands of the user base grows, so new features are added often. Sometime this years we will automate this process for everyone.
The Users Manual The short answer if we still do not have one, but as drafts are developed they will be vetted here.
Installing for the very first time. Download and run the scrip file below to install.

You only need to do this the very first time you install the program in a machine.
To Install the most current Program file. Download the file below on top of (overwriting) your current installation . Be sure to update the control file (below) as well.

Terms of use: This is a demonstration program and no guarantee regarding its
fitness for any purpose is made by SCSC, its agents, any standards
organization, its committee members or consultants. Use of this program and/or the accompanying source code is
entirely at your own risk. By using this
program you are agreeing to these terms.
This program was prepared by SCSC for the
benefit of persons working with and developing ITS standards and entries for
the community data registry program run as part of the cooperative agreement
between Federal Highways (FHWA) and multiple standards setting organizations
including the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Institute of Transpositions
Engineers (ITE) and others. Its purpose
is to assist data authors and stewards engaged in preparing standards to
develop their own committee work. By
bringing properly structured and formatted entries to the ITS systems data
registry (run under the auspices of IEEE) coordination between all affected users
is made easier.
An empty starting point data base can be obtained from the below and used to add data of your own

An database showing simple data element reuse cases can be obtained from the below link and used to understand how records created in one standard are used in another in both the ASN.1 and XML formats.

An database of test ASN1. to XML conversion cases can be obtained from the below link and used to understand the way in which the SAE conversion standard has been implemented.

If you need to import files form the IEEE registry to Mini-Edit a utility for doing this can be obtained below. Place this in the same directory as you have Mini-Edit.

A Related XML link If you deploying are using XML technology and need the most current schemas representing the message sets from different SDOs, you may find this page useful until the industry has determined a long term way to distribute XML schemas to end users.
