Encoding Pedestrians and Other Non-Motorized Vehicle Patterns
Signs of this type (typically denoted a R9 and R10 and also the M7 and W11category types in MUTCD)
are used to instruct pedestrians and bicyclists on valid movements and to present cautions. The pattern to
be followed is:
<direction or arrow><named object><destination details><optional distance, value, units>
In constructing signs using these patterns the following rules shall be observed:
The type of traffic or traveler (pedestrian, bicycle, etc) to which this applies is typically part of the
named object.
Note the ped is always spelled out as pedestrian in the ITIS codes
